Dr. Lake, Founder, Owner, and your Veterinarian. He can’t wait to meet you!

Jacob has loved animals since he was very little and spent most of his childhood looking for toads and salamanders. But unlike many of his peers, he didn’t always know he was going to be a veterinarian.

Originally from Wauwatosa, WI, Jacob moved to the Madison area in 2011 to attend UW-Madison (he felt so at home, he’s never left). His passion for the critters of this planet (at one point including humans) led him to begin pursuing Biomedical Engineering. That quickly turned into Neurobiology, instead. Studying the complexities of the nervous system and brain led down a fortuitous path into research at the university and working with animal models of disease. After earning his bachelor’s degree, Jacob spent three years in a lab studying neurodegeneration in Parkinson Disease. Charged with caring for and training numerous rats during this venture, it was the personal bond Jacob established with each that awoke in him his love of animals once again. He applied to the veterinary school at UW-Madison and the rest was history.

Now a proud “double” Badger, Jacob, his wife Leah, and their dog Murphy are settled in Sun Prairie, WI. Jacob has been practicing companion animal medicine (dogs and cats) in the Madison area since he graduated in 2022. He is passionate about building quality relationships and connecting with animals throughout their lives. His interests in the field include dentistry, routine surgery, and end of life care. Outside of veterinary medicine, Jacob enjoys reading, biking, playing ukulele, and tending to the many plants overtaking his house.

Meet McKenna Meyers, your skilled Certified Veterinary Technician.

McKenna (Mac) is a dedicated Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT). She has been working and collecting valuable experience in Veterinary Medicine since 2018. Mac earned her Associates in Veterinary Technology degree in 2021. Mac has a super athletic Australian Shepherd named Milo, who is pictured above. Mac also has a Saddlebred horse named Summer, who she adores spending time with. Since childhood, she has always carried a great love and admiration for animals; she treats every pet like they are her own. A special work interest for Mac is anesthesia and assisting with surgery. Mac lends impressive attention to detail during surgery with Dr. Lake to ensure smooth procedures from preparation to recovery. Mac joins us with Emergency Veterinary experience; this background and knowledge means you can count on her to guide and support through urgent concerns. In her free time, she loves spending time with her pets and family members (especially spoiling her two nephews – she doesn’t say no to ice cream!). She looks forward to working with you and your pets, and giving *all* the cookies to your furry kids!

Fun Fact: Dr. Lake and Mac have nurtured a working relationship since 2018. Over the years, they have connected in various capacities in veterinary medicine. To say that they present as a solid team is an understatement! We strongly believe that workplace chemistry is important — for you, this means smooth operations and ease with your pet’s appointments.

Meet Leah Lake, Founder and Owner, the face of behind-the-scenes support.

Leah works primarily as a mental health therapist in Madison; however, she also serves here at Lake Mobile as Chief Marketer and Office Administrator. Leah’s professional background lends great understanding to the emotional highs and lows of pet parenting. She affirms and validates your complex human experience alongside healthcare for your pets. Leah is a firm believer in creating space for honoring suffering to fully embrace and experience the pleasure that is having pets. You’ll find Leah offering kind communication, sharing resources, networking, and being creative around here. Know that she’s gladly in your corner and happy to support (likely with Murph on her lap)!

Get to know Murphy.

Murphy Guster Lake is the handsome inspiration behind the logo of Lake Mobile. Murphy is an eight-year-old French bulldog who has an abundance of love to give and receive. Jacob and Leah are grateful to have him as their “soul dog,” and quite honestly, the center of their world. The idea of immortalizing Murphy in their clinic brings tears to their eyes and joy to their hearts. For Murphy, it brings many tail wags (well, for him, more like nub wiggles). While Murphy loves to be the main character in every storyline, he is so excited that love, care, and loads of treats can be shared with his local furry friends.
